I assume they did not since they were perfectly innocent. Innocence, to me, implies freedom from the knowledge of how to work.

I think the only task Adam had was to name all the animals.

No, everything they needed was in the garden. All they had to do was look after it under God's authority.

God created the Earth and man and "He saw that it was good." (repeated all throughout Gen. 1) Reading later into Chapter 2 verse 15 it says that God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to WORK it and take care of it. The Hebrew is divided into two words. עבד (transliterated: 'abad) meaning "to serve; to labour; to till (as in land)" The second word, שמר (transliterated: shamar) meaning "to keep; to preserve; to have charge over" In the light of all of this, God seeing creation and calling it good and seeing man and calling it good and placing a good man/creation in the good garden/creation for the purpose of work would obviously lead to the idea that work was created GOOD. Fast forward to chapter 3 and the Fall of Man. Afterward, God went through the "curses" cursing the serpent, the woman in childbirth, and the ground. (Gen. 3:17-19; 23) The work that God created "good" before the fall would now become hard and toilsome producing "sweat from our brow" (Gen. 3:19) And when we are glorified after the return of Christ and the New Heavens and Earth are created and Christ reigns for a Millenium, things will be as they were intended to be in the beginning. The ground will no longer be cursed and work will no longer be hard. Work was created inherently good by God and I, personally, look forward to the day when I work and it's not hard or tiresome. It's actually fun! Hope this helps! God bless!

koldkanuck.... my comments arent going through for some reason but here's a description you asked for. God is love. To fully understand what that word even means, I would refer you to 1 Corinthians 13 verse 4 through the beginning of verse 8. You could substitute "God" in for everytime you see the word "love" because God is love. He loved us so much that when we had already made up our minds to go our own way and forget all about Him, He sent His son to die for what we had done wrong. Why? Because He loves us. He wants a relationship with us. Thats why we were created. To have a relationship with God and all He wants us to do is love Him back by accepting the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, believe that God raised Him from the dead, and enter into that loving relationship with Him. That simple.

In Christian literature and legend, Lucifer is generally considered to have been a prominent ARCHANGEL in heaven, although Book of Ezekiel 28:14 says: "You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there." In the fully-developed theme of "The War of Heaven", Lucifer had been motivated by pride to lead a revolution against God. When the rebellion failed, Lucifer was cast out of heaven, along with a third of the heavenly host, and came to reside in the world. Archangel. Highest, supreme angel. From the two Greek words, arch, "first," and angelos, "messenger."

they had to take care of the garden and name the animals. sounds like work to me. I think after they were thrown out of the Garden of Eden, work became a "bad" thing.

There goes the forgiving god theory.

He gave them all they needed, food, animals , etc. and they had power(dominion) over all of it..Genesis 1:28;2:15,a helper, woman, 2:22-24. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and SUBDUE it....subdue:tend, take care of,calm, tame, bridle, master, overcome..... so ,yes, but they were in Eden and loved the tending..it was the perfect marriage and life... then they disobeyed..punishment was death and expulsion and man then had to take care of hisself and family by the sweat of his brow and eat of the ground... until death...woman then would bear pain in childbirth and submit to her husband..husband was to be boss and stronger than adam was and not let wives lead them astray, (good at that, Jezebel, Delilah, Bathsheba, etc) and then back to dust ,for all of us...Gen. 3:16-24... hope helps...

Of course! Gen 2:15 says that YVHV TOOK Adam, PUT him in the garden to DRESS it and KEEP it. Dress in Hebrew is the word Abad and out of 294 times it appears in the OT, only 2 twice is it translated as "dressed". Nice and clean "dressed" sounds. Try better translations of this word such as "serve", "do", "labour", "bondage". Adam and Eve worked there arses off in Eden. Notice that "God" PUT him there. Where was haAdam made if he had to be PUT there? Adam was created by the Elohim for Slave labour.
