  • Intermissions in the middle of a film were very rare: reserved only for what were then thought to be super-long films like "Gone With the Wind" and "Spartacus". Movie "Intermissions" in the past were really just breaks BETWEEN films, back when the movie house had but one theater, and would show a B-Movie, Newsreal, Travel-logue, and "selected shorts" (the 3 Stooges, a cartoon, etc.) and finally "The Feature Film" all in series, with short breaks in between them -- and for a quarter you could go spend all day.
