  • Not very much. I wouldn't spend over $100. You can buy stuff for dorms at places like Wal-Mart or Target. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it since it's not going to be a long-term living space. Things like the mini-fridges and stuff can be bought used pretty inexpensively.
  • Depends on the college you choose. My daughter is at a school where most of the kitchen/laundry things are provided: microwave, iron, ironing board, can opener, popcorn popper, etc. It also depends on how much extra cash you have over the estimated cost of books and room/board.
  • L Kids spend too much decorating their rooms when its temporary and you have to tear it all down and get it home again. I pasted in a site with info from students which should be helpful. What you need to buy depends on your living arragements at school. Are you going to be in a bare bones room with bed desk and dresser or a dorm apt with two or three roommates per bedroom.
