how can I make the font larger every time wordpad opens

Unfortunately, you can't change the default font size in WordPad, because it's set by your overall configuration rather than a single setting. However, PCWorld offers a way to accomplish the same thing by pointing a WordPad shortcut to a read-only document "template" that you create with the font size you want.
