  • I think that is a matter of personal choice. I have eight tattoos but they are all colour bar one. My son has two and they are both black.
  • I prefer black and grey, but then again, I'm not a fan of overly colorful things to begin with. So my taste in all things decor and color-related simply carries over into tattoo art.
  • I think it depends on the subject of the tattoo. Some tattoos look better in black and grey, and others look better in colour. Eg. A flower might look better in colour, and a portrait of your grandma might look better in black and grey.
  • I feel that whatever you like is the right choice! I myself like color in my tatts. I have one that was going to be black and gray but I chose to have the shading done in purple. I love it to this day!!
  • Just from what I heard, I think you should go with the black/grey. It doesn't need as much care as the full color, and I hear that color tats need touch ups, and lots of looking after. What design are you interested in? Let me know how everything goes!
  • With color and a good artist you can have very lovely tattoos.
  • It is HIGHLY dependent on the tattoo.
  • It all depends on what you're getting - when I first started getting mine ('99), I said I would never get color cause I didn't like the way it looked back then - but the new inks that have recently come out stay more vibrant and there is a huge variety... so I recently got a 1/2 sleeve that is half Black/grey,half color, and the colors turned out awesome. As far as worrying about touch-ups/fading, scarring, etc. - any tatto (no matter what color) fades with time. You just have to be careful when exposed to sunlight. If you like to tan/lay out, whatever, just make sure to use a strong SPF just on the tattoo - i.e. When I lay out I use SPF 15 on all of my body, and SPF 45 on the my tattoos, or even 60 if I am going to be in the sun for a long time... buuuut I haven't done that in a long time since I had skin cancer last year - which brings up scars. I have part of my 1/2 sleeve covering up an old tattoo, which also went over a scar that was only a few months old (very small, but very sensitive) it was on my shoulder blade but hurt very much (only about 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch)... seems I've lost track of my point; with concern for how long it will look good and how often it will need touch-ups all depends on how well you care for your skin in general.
  • me i am a white man. i like color tattoos. you cant really see a color tattoo on a black man, no offence but color is easily seen on white men. i have 6 and they are all color
  • I have one that was several colors, but the red, blue and yellow inks faded away long ago. I'm too cheap to get the color redone, so now my butterfly is green, black, and flesh colored.
  • I have 2, both of which are basic black and grey. I have a heart on my chest, it is black and grey with hints of red and purple. It took forever. While the one thats just black on my ankle, took an hour, hand tapped
  • I have both and believe that either look great. I think if you have light colored skin that color sticks to it looks very good. The colors are so vibrant.
