My parents always listened to the old, twangy country music.

My Dad played in a marching band, and love that kind of music a lot. He was also part of a barbershop quartet with his brothers, and they sang with each other until Dad and Uncle passed on. The two remaining bros still sing with a barbershop quartet. Mom was partial to swing bands and jazz, as am I.

My parents, unfortunately, like country. But my mother's favorite band was and always will be REO Speedwagon, and my father's is Chicago.

I don't know about my dad - he never listened to it, but I'd imagine swing & the big bands like Tommy Dorsey. My mom loved Louie Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
-
My mom isn't much into music, so I can't say for her. My dad loved everything and anything. When I inherited his record collection after he died, he had Pink Floyd, Metallica, Peter Gabriel, Moody Blues, the Beatles, Arlo Guthrie, and a ton of others. I remember long car rides were always cool, because he had so many different bands that he'd listen to, no trip was the same.

Being from the "old country", they like old Chinese opera and folk music.

My dad enjoys well-written and well-sung hymns and any other kind of music that glorifies God in some way or other. As for what he calls 'worldly music', he prefers the songs that have what he believes are not poisoning to the soul. EX: A really well-written song with beautiful lyrics and beautiful singing accompanied with an instrument or instruments that help(s) make the song even more beautiful. He seems to prefer opera, classical, and country when it comes to the 'music of the world'. I am not sure what my mom likes when it comes to music.
