  • I havent had a drink for about a year now for health reasons too. I think after you realise just how much damage drinking and smoking etc can really do to you- you wake up a bit and start to take action! I go to the gym a lot now, and i dont smoke or drink and im feelin great- how about you?
  • I agree... it can be a socially odd thing. Like anything there are pros and cons.
  • I've not had a drink in almost 2 years , and for me quitting was due to my praying , and thank goodness I was blessed Hi Nelson --- + 5
  • I don't drink at the moment due to being pregnant. Other times, I drink only in extreme moderation, and while it's a socially odd thing, people usually don't give me a hard time for it. The only people who tend to are co-worker types, who I tend not to go out with after work for that very reason.
  • I do not drink due to personal religious convictions. I don't have many friends who drink regularly, so it's not a problem for me socially.
  • I had a 6-year binge that ended about 5 years ago. I certainly feel much better without that in my life. I would consider that I was mildly alcoholic -- basically I got drunk almost every night and would get very irritable or disturbed if I had to go a night without it. The odd thing is that I don't have the "must avoid alcohol" solution that I've heard is necessary. I CAN drink mildly, and have on occasion, and it no longer cascades into heavy drinking -- each time I try it, I recall how painful that period of my life was, and how I don't like having my brain fogged up, and I dislike the morning-after effects. I don't need any support, I just suppose I got sick of it and something snapped inside.
  • I don't drink now, mostly due to medical reasons. The most I ever have is a social drink now and then. Sometimes I really want a good Margarita, but that's about it. I do cook with wine and other alcohol, but I have to be sure it "cooks off" so it doesn't interfere with my medications. My family and friends are fine with it. If I go out, I just get a non-alcoholic drink.
  • I drink alcohol very rarely, but will go out with friends regularly and just order a soft drink from the bar. Friends rarely even give my not drinking a second thought, but IF they do, I just look at them and say, give it up, I'm a bit too old to give in to peer pressure. :D
  • My medication says to "avoid alcohol". When I asked my doctor about this, he didn't seem concerned if I had alcohol in moderation and as long as I realized the medication may increase the effect of the alcohol I would consume. I enjoy a glass of wine, a beer or a cocktail but I stay away from the hard stuff and usually never have more than two drinks at a sitting because I don't want to over-tax my liver. I had to be off alcohol for 3 straight months while I was taking a pill for a toenail infection or I could damage my liver. If I had a liver condition, I would certainly give up all alcohol.
  • I haven't touched alcohol in over 25 years since I converted to Mormonism. I actually am happy about it. I didn't like the way I felt when I overdid it.
  • I do my best to keep myself from drinking alcohol, so I only do so very rarely. This is because I'm a serious lightweight, and the negative effects of drinking greatly outweight any postive effects for me.
  • I never started, because I dislike the taste of all alcohol, and because I didn't/don't want to be the kind of person who overdrinks, whether for social reasons or to relieve stress.
  • I haven't drank any alcohol in 20+ years. I simply never acquired a taste for it, and always preferred to be in complete control of my faculties.
  • I never drink alcohol..even when i am 18 i wouldnt drink alcohol..i hate drunks....lol
  • I also stopped about 3 years ago because of health problems...I don't need any support or guidance. I agree though it is a little socially odd..I mean to hang around people who are drinking when you are sober is okay for a while..but you soon lose interest in their conversations. I get a little annoyed because I stopped because I was having liver/kidney problems and the minute you mention liver everyone assumes that you are an alcoholic..there are many many liver diseases and only 1 is caused by alcohol. I just get tired of trying to explain to people why I don't drink. So I just usually say I choose not to.
  • Da ben dan makes a good point if you say health problems or liver, people think you're alcoholic. I too quit about 3 years ago because is disagrees with my movement disorder. My friends are great too. Strangers well, I too get tired of explaining so, if they are not nice about it, I just grab my crutches and wobble to my feet and say because it makes THIS worse.
  • I haven't had a sip of alcohol in over 22 years. Alcoholism runs in my family & I married one so just the thought of alcohol causes pain in my life
  • I've never drunk alcohol. Have wanted to find a good reason to do it.
  • I don't drink because I think that most of it tastes like crap.
  • Alchohol doesn't mix well with my medications. My doctor said a drink now and then wouldn't be a problem, but every time I had a drink I would get plastered on just half of a drink. And the hangover would be twice as bad, so I just decided not to drink at all. I don't really miss much.
  • I don't drink because I'm only 16.
  • I've never drank alcohol. Then again I really don't drink any soft drinks either. They cost too much and aren't really healthy. There just isn't a reason for me to drink those.
  • My mom does not drink alcohol...she stopped about 12 years ago...I'm not sure why though
  • Me. Never really drank much and the desire for it just faded. I do want a beer when I eat Mexican food.
  • You still can go to Pub/Clubs if your not drinking, just switch to Redbull or some other energy drink. I've also heard about alcohol free beer, that means you still can have a normal(ish) BBQ.
  • I don't drink because I grew up with an alcoholic father and older brother. Alcoholism runs in my family and I don't want to risk it. Besides, it has caused me so much grief in my life that I wouldn't dream of touching it. The fights between my mom and dad were terrible and still today they fight over his drinking. My brother has never been able to keep a job because of his addiction. I have family members who died from alcohol related causes. I will never drink alcohol.
  • Nelson...I still miss you on AB
  • I quit drinking alcohol years ago. It was not easy. I had to change my whole lifestyle, my friends, my activities, but once I did, I could never see myself living the drinking life again ever. I would rather be dead. I could not just drink one drink anymore.
  • I have quit due to having diabetes .... So; in a social situation , I'll order a Frozen Daquri and ask that it be a VIRGIN ...
  • I don't drink alcohol and I never have (at least, not that I know of). I just never really saw the point. I might try it at least once in my life, though. Maybe.
