I just say it like "giff." It just sounds better that way.
-
I've always said the hard "G" Giff I may be wrong :o)
-
It's Giff. 100% for sure. It stands for Graphical Interchage File Format.
-
Must be gif since the g is for Graphical some thing..
-
I actually pronounce it as G I F by the letters.
-
It stands for Graphics Interchange Format, so I pronounce it giff.
-
I did it letter by letter...maybe I'm wrong.... G-I-F
-
I've always heard it pronounced as "jiff".
-
I say G-I-F and pronounce each letter.
-
Giff. As in an Animated GIF. It has the hard G sound.
-
I've heard it pronounced both ways so I'm thoroughly confused.
-
I say Giff, because the G comes from Graphics - so it should be a hard G.
-
its pronounced Jiff but many people say giff.
-
Giff.
-
Jiff, but some say it Giff
-
Giff, i hear almost 100% of the designer i talk to say it that way but it doesnt really matter because almost everybody will know what ur talking about either way, giff or jiff, but ive never heard anybody say it G-I-F
-
Either is acceptable. Most often it sounds like the peanut butter. 'Jiff'
-
Most people don't say either, they actually say gee eye eff because each of the letters is made to be an abbreviation, not to spell either of those words you mentioned.
-
Giff is how I've always pronounced it.
-
Jiff, like the peanut butter.
-
I've always heard it called by the letters, G-I-F...
-
According to AOL (who developed the format), the correct pronunciation is with a J sound. However, everyone I've ever heard has always pronounced it with a hard G sound, which has become generally accepted (partially due to hatred of AOL by some).
-
I've always pronounced in Giff. This is similar to the "jiggabytes" vs. "gigabytes" pronunciation. I usually find that people less familiar with computer terminology will use "jigga" because often they've only seen it in print, and have come up with their own pronunciation. Maybe the same is true with giff vs. jiff. Oh, and while we're at it, most people mispronounce Beijing (the capital of China). I usually hear it pronounced "bay zhing" with a soft 'j' sound. The correct pronunciation (ignoring the tonality) is a hard j, like in jingle: bay jing But I digress!

Like the peanut butter, Skippy.
-
Pretty sure it's Giff.
-
Giff
-
I've always pronounced it like G I F.
