Oestrogen, mostly... It influences brain function and emotions. Both men and women have it, but women in far higher quantities (even more so during pregnancy / period I think, but I'd have to recheck that) Could also be social conditioning, in general for men there seems to be more social pressure to be 'tough', 'strong', 'don't shed a tear', etc : P (not so much any more in my experience, but you probably know what I mean), and women more 'loving', 'gentle', etc. ***** Anyway, it's a generalisation across a whole gender, around 50% of humanity : P there are countless exceptions (just as with men and 'being tough', etc).

to prove that they are women?...not all women are emotional, sum guys are emotional too...its who we are and how we choose to express our emotions. god made both men and women emotional but sumone just taught the male 'species' to not show their emotions like women do. (and sum guys didnt want to listen)
