I bought a used pickup truck for $500 when I was in the Navy. It had > 100,000 miles on it when I got it and everyone told me I was nuts and that I had been ripped off. I drove that truck for almost 15 years before I gave it away. I drove it all over the place - as far North as White Plains, NY, as far South as Mayport Fl, not to mention various trips across the USA. I had to perform normal kinds of maintenance on it but nothing major. That was a great investment!

Bought a house in Southern California in the 1980's. I also bought Xerox Stock when it was only $4 a share, but I lost a bunch when it first went from $60 to $34 a share so I was watching it close. I had figures that showed the hard assets of the company were worth $10 a share if sold outright, so I figured $4 a share was a bargain. So I bought back in with everything I could. It's been bouncing around $15-$20 a share since.

Four-way tie. A start-up bank stock. A piece of raw land. Education. Taking care of my 84 year old mother. But it's easy for people to confuse making a living at something, doing the right thing and luck with a good investment.
