  • A smile is an expression. It has always been labeled as a sense of happiness but there's much more to it than that. A person can smile when they're nervous in order to hide that factor. A person can smile when their heart is broken simply because of the fact that they don't want a teer to drop. A person may want to smile when they are angry to hold back their fists or words. I see it as a means of self control. This may be looked at as lieing, but it also is looked as being optimistic. If you can't smile about life and what it brings (the good and the bad) you're not living at all. This is when depression may hit and even suicide. This is the way I see it. So smile more often and know that you are blessed to be alive! =)

  • There is always something to smile about. If there is nothing visible to you that would justify a smile from another person, then perhaps they are remembering something pleasant. • I smile at folks every day, simply because the majority of them like it, and smile back. Try this: Tomorrow, smile a genuine smile while talking or just looking at 10 random people. 6 or 7 of them will smile right back at you. It feels really good to have 7 people smile at you. (Especially if they happen to be Tropical suntan lotion girls. I also smile any time it's real cold and I pee my pants, but that only happens when I rub my leg on the electric fence while feeding cows.
  • The answer to the question assumes nothing exists to smile about. If we accept that premise, we can then state something must exist for a smile to appear. If something exists we most likely can smell it, touch it, see it or hear it. So the final and true answer to your question as posed is that people smile because there is indeed something to smile about. What if a person could not smell, touch, see or hear? Do you think this person could never smile? Do people smile because it is a learned, voluntary reflex to an existing external stimulus? Or, do people smile as an involuntary reflex? Cam people smile both involuntary and voluntary? What about the existence of intuition? People often feel or sense something intuitive, a deep-down feeling, right brain sense of what exists. If intuition exists and intuition by itself is something, then there must be something to smile about. The fact that people can imagine something means that something must exist. The existence of something causes people to smile.
