  • Your nephew, where does he hear this stuff? On one hand if you ate enough it could. But lettuce doesn't have a lot of caloric value. So I won't get absorbed by the body the way carbs and protein do. If you want to gain some weight. Try loading up on those. I would go with say peanut butter and crackers or bread. Peanut butter has protein and fat. And will assist in weight gain.
  • Carbs, fat, protein....that will help gain weight. Lettuce is mostly water...pretty much no calories.
  • Being the over weight person I am at the moment I can honestly tell you no don't eat lettuce for weight gain we(the ones trying to lose weight) eat it because it don't have calories almost all veggies are this way. But if you want to gain weight(& I'm an expert in this trust me) eat chocolate & sweets & meats, rolls & pasta's with lots of butter & stuff.
  • Yea lettuce will expand your stomach(i am a professional eater and i use it to tyrain) but it will do nothin for weight gain you will actually end up losing weight so i would suggest lifting and then eating a peanut butter sandwhich with whole milk if you are looking to gain weight.
  • No, lettuce does not expand in the stomach but as "ruffage" digestion does not break down lettuce like most foods. That creates some bulk in the intestines allowing the intestines to more easily push food waste through. It is, in fact, a very low calorie food so eating a lot of lettuce is more likely to help you lose weight, not gain it. I suggest increasing your protein intake (any kind of lean meat or beans) with will also help to increase muscle mass.
