Never thought about it, but we call it stuffing, even though we never stuff it in anything.

Stuffing, even if it's never been stuffed in anything.

I call it both. I never actually stuff the turkey with dressing, so I don't know why I ever call it stuffing.

Stuffing is the stuff made of bread that you stuff inside a Turkey/large bird. Imitation Stuffing is the stuff you cook in a pan which WOULD have been put inside the bird if you'd been less lazy. (We always have both, because the bird is not large enough to hold all the stuffing everyone wants, and some folks prefer a lighter flavor than actually stuffing it creates.) Dressing is an oil/vinegar based substance most people put on salad, and completely unrelated to Stuffing.

We call it Turkey and Dressing. We don't stuff it. We make a nice outfit for the turkey with it..
-
Stuffing and then we make separate stuffing so it is crispy
-
You know...I call it stuffing but not everyone in my family does...my dad usually is the one making it and he calls it dressing. And we DO actually stuff it.
-
In the UK I have only ever known it to be called stuffing. We always stuff the turkey and then if there is any left over, we make the rest into cakes and serve them on the side.
-
Dressing, because I never stuff anything with it.

To us Aussies, stuffing is what is cooked inside the bird. Dressing is oil and vinegar and spices put on salad.

I call it stuffing. It's my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner. Yumm!
-
In my family, it's always been "dressing". And, beside my plate, there's always a jar of mayo, (I have to mix it with my cornbread dressing). My family thinks that is weird.
-
Stuffing goes with turkey, dressing goes on a salad.
-
I call it both. Sometimes I'll say stuffing and then other times I call it dressing.
-
I call it stuffing because we DO stuff our bird and make a separate dish of it and then mix both together, that way getting the flavor from the bird and the crispy bits from cooking separately.
-
Both oh non-responder to questions that you blindly post.
