  • Yes. Joseph Smith taught that he was told by God to make changes to certain parts of the King James version of the Holy Bible.
  • Yes. The result is commonly known as the Joseph Smith Translation, though it is more accurate to use the other name, the Inspired Version, because Joseph (like the earlier translators) didn't actually have an original manuscript to work with. No original manuscripts were known to exist when the Bible was compiled (at the end of the 4th Century), and none have been found since that time. Instead, Joseph relied on inspiration from the Lord to do his work with the Bible, filling in some spaces which cropped up over the centuries of hand-copying. At the time, the King James Version was the only available English-language Bible. Recent versions have shown a number of errors in the KJV, leading to a low-level war between KJV traditionalists (who want to believe that the KJV is perfect and complete) and proponents of the newer versions. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints uses the KJV as its English-language version of the Bible because it is the most familiar to English-speaking members and investigators, and because it is not necessary to the Lord's purpose that the Bible be word-for-word perfect, so long as we know that it is not. As to the question of why it took God so long to inspire the changes to be made, I suggest that you ask HIM, because my answers would be A), because God does things in GOD'S own time, and B), because it wasn't important to him that the changes be made until recently.
  • Joseph Smith predicted himself by adding to the King James Translation of the Bible at the end of Genesis (Genesis 50:26) and extending Genesis out to verse 33 in the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible.
  • Don't [you LDS] people see that if all this springs from Joseph Smith with no reasonable validation, that it all looks very suspicious? When ONE HUMAN alters something validated by many HUMANS (i.e. 4 gospels, prophets of the OT, Paul), and says "Oh, God inspired me to say so..." then there needs to be something more than "well you're just misinterpreting your translation" (to argue with)? Wouldn't you all agree that's God's word would be perfect? Don't you all agree that if we find conflict, then we're mis-interpreting something? So that's what I mean, that when ONE HUMAN comes along and adds more conflict, then it's suspicious... Sean Parker
  • NO... Joe smith didnt change the Holy Bible per say... He & other LDS added to that religion other books... These would be... The book of Mormon, Peral of great price & The Doctrines & covenants...
  • Verily, thus saith the Lord: It is wisdom in my servant David W. Patten, that he settle up all his business as soon as he possibly can, and make a disposition of his merchandise, that he may perform a mission unto me next spring, in company with others, even twelve including himself, to testify of my name and bear glad tidings unto the world. (Doctrine & Covenants 114:1) This prophecy was made on April 17, 1838. David W. Patten died in October of 1838 and thus never went on a mission the following spring. These are a few that Joseph Smith got wrong, he didn't alter the bible he just put foot notes in it and said that he reciecved revelations from God and he translated them correctlly. Like the several prophases he couldn't even get right himself....there are many more.
  • Yes he did, and his furhter teachings contradict the bible directly. If anyone here is searching to find out if Joseph Smith was really a prophet or if Mormonism is the "true" religion, please research it for yourself. Mormons are instructed to NOT test their faith and instead listen to other leaders within the church for guidance, even though the testing of one's beliefs is actually condoned in the bible. There are an unbelievable amount of fallacies within the church and its prophets that it is almost hard to find a place where the lies begin. Joseph Smith has deceived MILLIONS of people world-wide and if you are inquiring about Mormonism research it for yourself. Anyone that has thoroughly evaluated the Mormon religion and has come to the assumption that it is true have deceived themselves. Don't let them decieve you too.
  • Joseph Smith was a charlatan. He slept with many women who were married to other men during his experimentation with polyandry in Navoo. Of course he would say whatever he felt would benefit him. The LDS Church is one of the most successful scams of all time. Most of its current victims spend a great deal of time defending it. It did too when I was involved with it earlier in my life.
  • No, he just wrote a whole other book. But even that has been questioned.
  • Joseph Smith Jr was working on the Joseph Smith Translation (JST) when he was murdered. Since this worl was never completed, it was never canonized. The Community of Christ owns the rights to this translation, but allows the LdS Church to publish portions of it in the LdS Edition of the King James Version.
