the modern timing belt is a rubber compound so you MUST replace it when it says to on the box(or car) and even if you have done very little k's (miles) on it , if it says 2years then do it because the rubber compounds its made of breakdown over time and not through the use as such

My Corolla has a timing chain and doesn't need to be replaced...Most new cars have chain now...If you still have a rubber belt I would say 50K
