Well if it's one of those alumimum adjustable one, i think "I hope it doesn't hurt too much". If they are in a Tux with a polished ebony one i think "Cool!"

I don't know that I've ever really given it much thought. I guess I would think that maybe they have arthritis (I have that), or some other kind of debilitating condition, or had an accident.. There could be so many reasons really. As a kid, my brother broke his leg and as his leg healed, he got sick of the crutches (recovery was lengthy as his injury also involved surgery...), so eventually he used a cane instead of crutches.

I applaud them on being much more stylish than relying on crutches or one of those wretched electro-scooters. I can't believe how many young (or disgustingly overweight) people I have seen abusing this technology intended for the elderly. Hmmph.
