  • I bought my first Metallica album, S&M (I know some people hate that album, but I love it), and I heard "One", "Battery", and "Of Wolf and Man" and decided that I had to learn how to play the guitar. I got a SG Knock-off shortly after that, and learned Master of Puppets the entire way through, and I was hooked.

  • I do! I started because I got a little 3/4 guitar for Christmas one year. I started teaching myself chords...Eventually, my parents got me a full size acoustic and let me take lessons. I've been playing ever since (I started around 2003).
  • I started playing because my older brother had a guitar and I thought it was cool. I was about 6 years or so at the time.

  • All thru my younger years of my life i was a bit clued out with music in general. No one really showed me the wonders of music so when i finally got a taste of great bands I slowly became interested in its instruments(drums, guitar bass). And from there on end music was sticking with me all the time,And I became more and more inspired to actually pick up a guitar from frends,concerts,bands,... SO i got my first guitar when i was 13 (jully 29 2004) and the strange but acuall reason i picked up the guitar was from the simplisity of Nirvana songs with the cachy pop melodys and simple chord progressons. It was just easy to digest apart from malodic death meatal fusion..(or something extreamly complicated like that),And driven from Nirvana songs I took Lessons For 10 weeks . And came out with what Nirvan songs are mainly built on..THe forever faithful POWER CHORD.And from there my musical vision expanded and got in to a lot of difert types of music and was starting to digest very complex music and shred guitar, (paul Gilbert Alexi Laiho,John Petucci)And began takeing my playing to the limits with 2 and half years of self teaching my self all the deadly techniques you can name, which brings me to december 30 2007 of were i am right now 16,and a, still extending my musical feel. And I have come to realize these past 3 years I think I went Thru whats called a musical evolution ,staring out with insperation from Nirvana to Terrifying guitar Techniques of shred (Paul Gilbert),And I am still evolving and learning not just one but all types of music which is very healthy for you and I sugest who ever is reading this to do the same and keep evolving your mucical visions as guitaris...thanks for reading.

  • I bought an acoustic guitar and a *learn to play by Mel Bay* book in 1994 and from the first chord I was addicted. I still play every day, my equipment has expanded to a very nice compliment of electrics, basses and amps. Etc. I get in at least two hours every day, but some days when I don't have anything better to do, I'll just play all day, all night too. Why? Like I said, I am addicted.
  • Both of my parents are musicians, and when I was 12 years old my dad bought the local music store. I spent my summers and most days after school working in the store, polishing and tuning all the guitars. I'm not sure if I learned to play because I was just around guitars so much, or if it was because I was always around the cute guitar players...
  • I did, and still could, but would have to get my fingers back in shape. (Only played rhythm chords on acoustic, though I have an electric - Never learned much lead.) Why? Mom and Dad were always musical - in many choirs and quartets at church. Dad had had an old Hawaiian guitar, and gave it to me when I was 12. They got me lessons, and then I learned on my own. (After at least a few lessons, start buying music books with the chords written above the staffs, and learn the fingering of them that way. Then, if you want to learn lead, you can just start playing around to records. After a few years of learning on HIS own, a friend of mine took some lessons from a friend, and has become an EXCELLENT guitar player - He'd ALMOST quit when we met, and since I was playing, he got back into it. Here's the last band he was (and may still be) in - http://www.myspace.com/pinknoiseband .

  • My dad had an old acoustic Epiphone that I used to tinker with. One day I came home from a particularly horrible weekend away and all I wanted to do was play with it. He had needed some spare cash and sold it while I was gone. As I cried myself to sleep, I realized how much I loved it. I got my own a few months later and haven't stopped since.
  • when i was about 11 i played around with a guitar not really anything serious, 13 i got a electric i learnt most my stuff then by myself had a couple lessons on bass and learnt scales and now im 21 played in loads of bands doing orginal music and recording bands does help to start younger tho i think getting your natural ryhhm and finger strengh doesnt come over night

I play primarily in church. I used to play in clubs here in D/FW area, but since my wife had kids, I've put it down. Perhaps someday. Axe

  • When I was about nine years old. I'm 52 years old now. I can probably thank both The Beatles and puberty for giving me the urge to play.
  • Yes. I am not too sure exactly when. I have had a guitar since I was about 12 but never took it seriously until I was about 15 or so (I was too busy with 'cello and piano). I really started practicing when I was a bout 15/16 as this is when I took up Bass Guitar and I took up classical guitar with a bit more serious intent. I am not a great guitarist though, I am a much better bass guitarist.

  • when I was 8, my grandma taught me "twinkle twinkle little star" on her pump organ. Since then I have been a self taught pianist. My uncle heard me playing a cover of "sunshine of your love" on the organ at a family get together and he taught me hendrix riffs and basic pentatonic scales on his Gibson Les Paul. From there I have taught myself rock guitar, classical guitar, and am currently working on violin. I guess Music is my high, and I'm definitely addicted.

I started playing because some friends of mine did, and I wanted to be a cool musician type. I am mostly self taught, and have taught a few people here and there. The hardest part for me was getting past the pain in the fingers. Once that goes away, its all gravy from there. Play on!
