The first one I can remember caring about or really knowing about was Kurt Cobain's suicide in 1994. The next one is Princess Diana, but I don't remember what year that happened. Those were the two major ones anyway.

Elvis - I distinctintly remember hearing about it on the radio all day (we lived overseas and didn't have TV). I was only about 12 but knew it was huge news and was very sad, because I did like his music and movies. later on I learned that the American Army base we were living on was the very base Elvis was assigned to.

Robert Kennedy. That's probably because we were on vacation in California when it happened. I recall seeing a HUGE crowd out in front of Good Samaritan Hospital. My dad said to my mother, "Something tragic has happened." He turned on the radio, and that's when we learned that we were witnessing a memorial service for RFK.

I remember bits of JFK, but the one that affected me was, when in school, the whole school had a "moment of PRAYER", (back then it wasn't "moment of silence"), for Dwight D. Eisenhower. That was within days of my best friend being killed in a car accident, and those 2 stuck with me for a long time.
