Yes and no. They do so in the same way that punctures expose the underlying weaknesses in pneumatic tyres. Stock markets are not perfect - neither are tyres. Both do the job they do better than any alternatives yet invented. If someone comes up with something better we will use that. Until they do, we will put up with the disadvantages of what we have now because of their considerable advantages.
