  • The number 666 is called 'the number of The Beast' in the Book of Revelations in the Christian Bible. The Beast is not necessarily the Devil -- in fact, it is unlikely that they are one and the same. The Beast has a prescribed role in the final days, described in the Bible, as an evil entity in its own right. The number if the Beast is a result of Kabbalistic calculations from the name of someone the author had in mind when writing the book. A great many theories have been advanced as to just who that might have been, depending on when the book is felt to have been written and which numerological system is used. One theory, for example, says it refers to the Roman Emperor, Nero, whose name can be transformed into 666 using a more common form of kabbalistic numerology. Others feel that 666 refers to a name yet to be spoken, or to the reduction of indentities to numbers in modern society. Modern Satanists have come to associate 666 with Satan indirectly, as a sign of their alliegance.
  • Numbers are very important symbols in the Bible. Good numbers are 3, 7 and 12. The most significant for your question is the number 3. In the Bible, when the writers are trying to empahsize their point, they use the number 3. For example, in Revelation 4:8 when the creatures sing , they sing "Holy, Holy, Holy", raising the word holy to the third and highest power.. Another important number for your question is the number 7. 7 is the number of God and it represents perfection and completeness. The number 6, because it is one short of 7, of perfection is used to represent man and his sin. Therefore the number 666, represents the sin of man taken to the third and highest power.

  • Because he randomly pulled out 3 cards from a hat that all had 6's on them. He thought this was such an odd coincidence, since he had 6 eyes on his forehead, 6 fingers on his hand, and 6 knees on his ankle and it immidiately became his favorite number.
  • Just my opinion! In Revelation 13:18, the Bible tells us "Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666." The number of the Anti-Christ, which as a puppet of Satan, is to be put as the "leader", "king" or whatever you want to call his office, of the world in a "One World Government". Some believe that this man will come from an mideastern country, some believe that, as stated by someone earlier, that it is Nero that will rise again to dictate the world in concert with Satan. According to Revelation 13:15-17,"15.He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast would both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed." 16."And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads," 17."and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." I hope this answered your question.
  • 16 And it puts under compulsion all persons, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, that they should give these a mark in their right hand or upon their forehead, 17 and that nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name. 18 Here is where wisdom comes in: Let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man’s number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six. This is not the devil's number. It is a number of beast that is trying to control the world..
  • so i think he wants to know, why Revelation tells us that it is the number of the beast?

  • just some superstitious bullshit number picked out of thin air to scare people.
  • it isn't. the number 666 is associated with a 'man'. Revelation 13:18 "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."
    • Venus1485
      It's Nero!
  • 666 is a sacred number to Satan, and is the number of perfection. Satan is not "evil" as depicted in the Bible, and He and the other Gods (as in the Greek Gods etc) love humanity. Christianity and other monotheistic programs are used as tools to keep people from real spiritual knowledge, and the power in the hands of those at the top. The Bible defames the Gods and calls them "demons", and people are told to stay away from them at all costs. Learn the TRUTH: www.joyofsatan.org
  • It's in a heavy metal song, isn't it?
  • It is a veiled criticism of the Roman emperor Nero whose full name adds up to 666 when gematria is applied. I think his name was perhaps Drusus Germanicus Neron Caesar Imperator.
  • not sure why
  • It isn't. A name identifies a person. John says that it is a man’s number, not that of a spirit person, so the name helps to confirm that the wild beast is earthly, symbolizing human government. Just as six fails to measure up to seven, so 666 six to the third degree is a fitting name for the world’s gigantic political system that fails so miserably to measure up to God’s standard of perfection. The world’s political wild beast rules supreme under the name-number 666, while big politics, big religion, and big business keep that wild beast functioning as an oppressor of mankind and a persecutor of God’s people.
  • Everybody and their brother jumps through numerological hoops to prove that 666 is associated with Roman Emperor Nero. I have strong reason to believe that the 666 has a simple explanation and that those Nero explanations just barely miss the mark. John of Patmos spoke Greek, and lived, probably during the time of Nero, during which many Christians were brutally persecuted. However, by the time he was writing Revelation, Nero had died and Vespasian would have been promoted from general to emperor. Vespasian was even more hateful toward Christians, but Vespasian's rule was somewhat short, and his first heir's rule was very short, then Domitian was ruler. Domitian would have likely been ruling during the time of Revelation's authorship. Even though Domitian was less cruel toward Christians than Vespasian, he was the son of one of the most brutal people against Christians, and he certainly was not kindly toward Christians. As such, John of Patmos' state of mind was certainly not positively impressed with the Roman leadership at the time. Looking at coins from the era, with Greek letters spelling out "A. Kai. Domet. Seb. Ge." - there was a formula used by Greek Christians to assign numbers to different letters, and that formula outputs 666 when the coin inscription is input. Coins from Nero's era output a similar number, 636, and there has been some backpedalling to try to retcon 636 instead of 666 as the original number of the beast in Revelation, but I think the Domitian Coin is a much more probable explanation, as those would have certainly been the coins in circulation on Patmos at the time Revelation was penned.
  • TigerSpirit is basically correct. For a more concise and precise answer: - because the number 666 is given as a "sign" by which "the Beast" can be identified (source: The Book of Revelation in the Bible) - because in that same Biblical book, "the Beast" is an associate of Satan and arranges (both by subterfuge and force) for "the world" to worship Satan SO: it actually doesn't signify Satan personally, but "the Beast" (often called "the Antichrist") who promotes the worship of Satan.
  • I researched this once, and found that some gonad just came up with it in a story they wrote, and since then the false narrative is what society and all took it to mean. The number 13 is not a bad number at all either. The number 7 was once a bad number, I think back in the 1300s.
