  • Make sure your C Drive isn't full.
  • I usually ctrl alt delete it to open up Windows Task Manager, go to processes, click memory usage so it's in descending order and check to see if there's something with a high mem usage that I don't want running and if there is I'll end the process. WOW what a run-on sentence.
  • I would run some hardware tests on the drive, clean out the inside of the machine, and defrag the hard drive. Also clean out any free space you can, and run virus and spyware checks. You can also go to "Run" and type in "msconfig" to configure which processes will load when you start the machine up, so that you don't have any junk from the beginning running in the background.
  • Run disk defragmenter. Run CCleaner and clear junks files and scan the registry (www.ccleaner.com). Check for any unknown start-up services and programs. Run Ad-Aware (I prefer SE because it uses less resources than 2007.) Run the latest version of Spybot S&D. And lastly scan for viruses using Anti-Vir, ClamWin, or another great anti virus program.
  • Your # Of Processes Running ON KEYBOARD PRESS Cltrl+Alt+Delete then click processes END PROCESS to anything that sounds weird, Or Look it up on the internet
  • Remove some programs you don't need.Clean unecessary files by using performace and maintenance. Then defragment your drive. After you still can upgrade your ram.
  • Right click on C: or D: and see how much free space do you have. Clear all your cached internet files in temp directory. Empty your trash can. Run Disk CLean up. (Right click on C: or D:) You can also try defragment now under tools tab.
  • Assuming you are not running short on space - download a spyware remover (lavasoft have a free one) and then follow this with a virus check (AVG Free is free to download and use).
  • Make sure that there aren't any "variables" on your memory. Empty your recycle bin, and delete your cookies!!!
  • I'd run the spyware and/or virus checker to make sure nothing is sapping your power. THen, if that was okay, I would check on free memory. If there is anything you can jettison to free up memory, do so (including clearing temporary files). Lastly, I would defrag.
  • probably that its even working
