  • Mormons study "their version" of the Bible. Joseph Smith believed the original was corrupt. Joseph Smith rewrote the Bible and made additions and deletions. Mormons study Smith's version of it as well as KJV along with other books including Book of Mormon. Smith made so many changes to the Bible including 32 changes to Genesis, 560 changes in the book of Luke, 483 in Matthew. John had 159 changes. Revelations had 85 changes. 188 changes were made in Psalms. Isaiah received more changes than any other Old Testament book. Mormons claim Joseph Smith is their prophet yet there’s a contradiction because Mormons don't accept all of his translations. In Genesis 1-8 Smith taught that Adam, Enoch, and Noah all accepted and taught the gospel of Jesus Christ, this is impossible since the “one” the gospel centres on was not even yet born, died or raised. "Fraud and falsehood only dread examination" Samuel Johnson.
  • Mormons do study the Bible. I believe the translation they use is officially the Old King James version. I can attest that they have Sunday School classes in which they study the Bible. So yes they study the Bible. The problem is that they also study non-biblical materials. They use these materials to force meaning into the Bible that is not there. e.g. Like the 3 degrees of Glory, Christ being a separate God from the Father, and Christ not being able to forgive all sin like murder.
  • I'd wager yes!
  • The problem here is who's interpretation of 'The' Bible is accepted to be true. Although read this Bible verse carefully: Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish [ought] from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
  • They study only the parts that support the book of Mormon. So, in short NO!
  • Absolutely we do. In fact it is a very important part of our scriptures. And we study the whole Bible, both Old and New Testaments. I often hear of many Christian Churches who only study the New Testament and completely ignore the Old Testament. Oh well, to each his own. whew4
  • Simple answer: Yes, Latter Day Saints do indeed study the Bible. (And this is no "spin", and no editorializing from a non-LDS Mormon Studies Scholar) For a fuller more nuanced (yet honest and straightforward) answer from a "pure" LDS source I recommend the following article by LDS Apologist W. John Walsh. http://www.lightplanet.com/mormons/response/qa/bible_importance.htm
