  • Wordpad or Notepad should be in the Accessories pane under Start > Programs
  • Notepad & wordpad are both included free with all windows copies in the Accessories menu. download.com also has lots of free simple word processors.
  • Wordpad and Notepad have already been mentioned but if your needs increase and you want a fully-fledged word processor I recommend you download Open Office, which also includes a spreadsheet, database, etc. You can download it from http://www.openoffice.org/
  • Suggestions others have made are reasonably good but I suggest biting the bullet and get a copy of Microsoft Word. At least some of the additional features will be helpful and the format is very universal in terms of giving other people your files and reading other people's word doc files.
