  • I don't care about Black Friday anymore. It used to be an event, but now shoppers can get as good a deal online as they can in person. Also many sellers use Black Friday to get rid of their returns and loss leaders (stuff that didn't sell) at "reduced" prices.       Returned merchandise is sold year-round as open box. Loss leaders are promotions, so they're effectively just an advertising cost. Much of what are sold as Black Friday deals are the same as outlet "finds," lower featured or lesser materials produced especially for the sale. It's like the joke about the store sign "GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE, inc."
