I'm not sure how that "defeats the red wave". We still don't know who will have majority control of the Senate (and probably won't know until the second week of December). However: it seems certain that the Republicans will gain a majority control of the House (and a comfortable majority, at that), which is one predicted consequence of the so-called "red wave". If the Republicans also gain majority control of the Senate then the so-called "red wave" will have "come true".
