  • They could have joint and separate accounts. It's not unusual to do this, then they have some money that is just for themselves, especially since both sexes were expected to work.

  • Naturally that depends on the couple. Different arrangements will work best for different couples. For example: if one is a "loose spender", it might be best if the other has a "main account" and the spender is restricted in the funds they have available. For example: if both work it might be advantageous to have an account for each. Etc.
