  • I think that they do that because they are very proud of their children's achievements and want other people to share their joy. Some people might think that it is bragging but are our children not allowed to be bragged about now and again? In the past (in the U.K.) people used to place a notice in their local newspaper to tell others about their son or daughter's achievements. This is just a more modern (and cheaper) way of doing that.

  • You can't blame someone who brags about their intellectual lottery win. Education is a rare commodity - so few people have one.

  • It lets the neighborhood bullies know where to come for another victim.
  • Apparently, they expected that their child would never accomplish that. Either that, or they're just trying to pump up the ego of their child.
