  • It's 2021, it's never polite to assume anyone's gender, age, or species anymore. If someone drops something on the ground, the polite thing to do is to not make eye contact with the person nor the object and simply move away slowly in a non-threatening yet authoritative manner. Or better yet, just stay at home so you don't ever end up in a situation where you are near other people in the first place.
  • When I was younger I preferred to be called Miss, because like you said above Ma'am made me feel old. But I've definitely crossed over into Ma'am territory now. If someone called me Miss I would be quite flattered.
