  • All of the time. I used to buy off-brand canned food, until I noticed that the cans themselves were tearing up my can opener. Often times, bulk grains or other dried ingredients come in packaging that just doesn't seem sturdy enough to me, so I'll typically pass. I'd rather spend an extra six cents a pound and not have a twelve pound bag spill on the kitchen floor.

      I did bulk in bags once, but I saved up containers to put them in. 2L bottles work well, but you have to invest the time pouring it in the bottles with a funnel. That was back when I was a single parent. I made my money back on my big bag of cocoa! haha.
