  • I love a Chinese chicken salad or a southwestern steak salad. Actually, most salads are good.

      What makes the Chicken Chinese?
  • It depends on what is available fresh. If you say "salad" without a modifier, I am only assuming lettuce is a given. I can't eat red onions. I like carrots and cabbage, and everything else I guess I could negotiate, if it's a vegetable (or savory fruit).

I like to throw the training wheel modifiers out and let the answerer run with it! Lettuce is not a given in my salads. I use baby spinach because iceberg lettuce is mostly just water. I also use it on sandwiches in place of lettuce. I also like a little fruit in my vegetable salad. But salad can also mean potato salad, corn salad, pasta salad or just a fruit salad (with or without jello). And you can have both a fruit and a veggie salad if you want. I sometimes like to put some shrimp or crab meat in it, though I know you wouldn't want that in yours. What about croutons or those soy imitation bacon bits? Do you like those? What about peanuts or sunflower seeds? Or chia seeds, or flaxseeds? Or other nuts (walnut, pecan, almond) or eggs? What about beans? Do you put some garbonzo's or black beans in there?

If I'm at the salad bar, I almost always put garbonzos in my salad, along with a couple of olives, tomato, spinach, lettuce, sunflower seeds, shredded carrots, cabbage, and a few herbs. I've never been a fan of bacon bits, but they aren't horrible. I used to love croutons, but I guess I got bored with them at some point. I love chia/flax seeds, as long as they are fresh enough to not taste like old oil. I usually stay away from eggs. A southwest salad is good with black beans, and I enjoy virtually any kind of tree nuts or peanuts or even roasted soy beans in moderation. Maybe it's just where I grew up, but when I hear "salad," I think of lettuce, unless if the word is proceeded by another word, which then makes me think of salad with the lettuce replaced by whatever the word is. It's popular here in Vermont to put apples and/or cheese in everything, including sometimes salad. Even our apple pies usually come in standard and traditional varieties (without or with cheddar cheese).
  • I like various types of chicken salad and a Ceasar salad. As for the ingredients, I put the chicken😉 in a chicken salad, some cheese, tomatoes, bread croutons, and mayonnaise.
