  • This site doesn't allow most special characters. If you peruse the questions, you'll see that many one-time users come here and attempt to post questions with either European quotes or backward apostrophes or the like, and their questions get cut off, the, usually, Linda Joy instructs them on how to edit their text using the pencil icon, but they sadly never come back.

Hahaha. I didn't read your answer until after I posted. But please feel free to cut and paste my answer. I'll be getting radiation soon and might not be able to check in as often. That goes for anyone. Its usually the ' being copied in that causes problems. All you have to do is take it out and key it back in. And save, of course, but some people are new to this. Also you have to give it time, although I think AB is faster than it used to be. Do you think it has to do with 5G? I should learn about that.

Why doesn't this site doesn't allow most special characters?
    • Linda Joy
For the same reason Canada isn't Canadia, and the same reason we're not born old and grow young. If you knew anything about programming I'd explain it to you, but then if you knew anything about programming and text editors you'd know the answer and not ask that.
  • I just answered that on the other question. Edit your question with the orange edit icon. Its having trouble because you copied in (or keyed in) a character this editor doesn't recognize. Then you can either key it in or copy it in and edit out the special character which is the n in pina colada and replace it by keying it in. Then save it with the red save icon.

"Tilde "Tilde" is a repurposed Spanish word used in the English language to refer to that accent mark that Spanish speakers refer to as the "virgulilla" ( ˜ ), the mark over the ñ or enya.Oct 8, 2013"

I don't think Enya spells her name with one of those wiggly things above the "n". Not that I'm particularly interested in Enya but I have seen her name before.
    • Linda Joy
I have no idea who that is.
    • Glambarber
Enya is an Irish singer. She is best known for her hit "Orinoco Flow".
  • Bigotry, I should imagine.
  • That's because Spanish accents are not in the English alphabet.

What about French accents? Do they have the same problem?
    • Jenny The Great ⭐
Go ask another question, but this time about French words.
