  • I don’t know, why don’t you ask a battery?

Batteries only seem to ever answer me in the positive or negative. When I ask "why," the answer is too emotionally charged.

  • Good question! My guess is that they were the failures, or a prototype. But I still have no explanation as to why it took them 409 times to get formula 409 right! There really aren't that many different ingredients in cleaning solutions!
  • A, B and C batteries were originally used for tube radios, and they varied in size and rating over time. They were originally square or rectangular in shape with two or three "taps" at different voltages for different kinds of tubes. Somewhat confusingly, cylindrical cells were also given letter designations and were mainly used for lighting, but the larger A and B sizes fell out of favor as several smaller AA or AAA were used together for higher voltages in electronic devices.

Fun trivia about B-cell (cylindrical) batteries - they are the same voltage (1.5 V) as C-cells, smaller in size, and also have an equal or longer nominal life (usually 8000-8500 mAh) than C-cells (nominally 6000-8000 mAh), yet B-cells went away, and C-cells persisted.
