How do I create a weighted playlist?
I want to create a music playlist where I can assign a "commonness" value to every song in the list.
For example, when I shuffle the playlist, a value-2 song should be more likely to appear near the beginning of the list than a value-1 song but less likely than a value-3 song. Higher-valued songs should also be more likely to repeat before reaching the end of the shuffled list.
Think of this system as being similar to a typical pop radio station. The most popular and current songs get played, say, once every 2 hours, whereas older or less popular songs might only get 1 play daily.
Any suggestions for apps or clever techniques to accomplish this goal? Bonus if your solution is free of cost, if it has no ads, or if it integrates seamlessly with pre-made YouTube playlists.
I am not interested in simply adding the same song multiple times in the same playlist, since I might get the same song twice in a row when shuffling. I am also not interested in music discovery services like Pandora, since I don't want to play any songs that are not already in the playlist.
