I need help with a construction homework problem about expedient surface drainage
You plan an expedient surface drainage structure as part of your SWPP. The basin area that drains to the planned site entrance is 28 acres. The flow path for all runoff leads to a ditch, which carries little flow except during storms and blocks the planned site entrance. A haul road will be constructed over the existing ditch at the temporary site entrance. You must install a culvert to carry drainage through the site haul road fill that you will construct across the ditch. You will accept no more that 50% change of exceeding the capacity of the round CMP culvert. From the geotech report you note that the surface soil in the basin is extensively silty sand (SM) You also see that the site has much vegetation and grass. The elevation of the top of the planned road embankment is at 82 ft. The bottom of the existing ditch that the haul road shall span is at 74 feet above datum. The road embankment crossing the ditch will have a 14 ft wide traveled way on top, which allows for the widest planned traffic wheel base plus 2 ft for safety on both sides of the traveled way. The planned embankment side slopes running both upstream and downstream will be 2.5H:1V. The bottom width of the existing ditch is 14 ft, and the stream sides slope at 1.5:1 to the top edge. You do not want to build any headwalls. By expedient methods, determine the size and length of the culvert pipe(s) through the road embankment. How many 20 ft lengths of CMP must be procured?
