  • One of my faves is the Freedom Swim on July 4. People swim (many nude) across the harbor 1.5 to 2 miles. It's a huge thing here. OnThursday nights people take their musical instruments to a park by the harbor and jam. It's very fun time too.
  • Hey ! There`s a festival called Diwali or Deepawali celebrated in India. This is one of the main festivals of the Hindus and Sikhs residing in India. In this festival everyone decorate their houses with artificial lights, lamps, candles and most commonly, "diyas". All this represents that there shall be light in every corner and that darkness has to lose, and light has to win. Women draw 'rangoli', which are beautiful patterns made at the entrance of houses from raw, dry colors or even with flowers and 'diyas'. People gift each other with loads of sweets, chocolates, dry fruits and many others items including beverages. And for the children, the best part is that they can play with crackers ! That`s why there is so much of noise during the festival. But crackers have become a major source of air, noise and land pollution. Everyone worship their deities. It is believed that during Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi, who is the goddess of fortune in Hindu mythology, visits the homes of people, thus, brings fortune to the people as well. At this time the country looks so beautiful, with every of it`s corner`s glowing. It`s like all the darkness has gone, and everyone`s just enjoying their life.
