  • 12-08-2016 A lot depends on what kind of salt. Many salts will crystallize if you just let it evaporate. Try table salt first, because it's cheap. Heat water and dissolve salt in it until it won't dissolve any more. Dissolve a bit of gelatin in a small amount of cool water, add that to the salt solution and stir well. Pour that into a really clean jar and let it cool in a place where it won't get bumped. Now there are two processes. One is to push a perfect salt crystal a short distance into the surface of the gel. If your gel is too thin, then you have to tie the crystal with a thread and hang it from a stick over the jar. This works, but it might take several tries to get a result that you like.
