  • IMO- no. There's no reason to start the war in the first place. If people would just open their minds, and not be so shut off, we could have more dialogue and not war and killing and horribleness.
  • Well, apparently it depends on which God you believe in, or how much oil your home country consumes. Those seem to be the main justifiers as of late, it's all but greed nonetheless.
  • I would say that war, like almost everything can be justified (the only things I say cant, is rape and peodophilia, but feel free to argue on more if you wish). An example of, IMO, a justified war is the Falklands war, Argentina invaded the island with no provocation at all, the UK declared war and freed our islands. A 2nd example is the 1st Iraq war, Iraq invaded Kuwait and the allies helped kick them out. What happened afterwards was, ofc not justified!
  • Yes, most of the time. Nothing makes a evil go away faster then all out war, look at world war 2 if britan hadn't jumped in then russia whould of fallen and hitler whould rule the world. Also millions more jews whould of died. sure millions of soldiers died but it had to be done or else we whould not be free at all, and no one can say disscussions wheren't held, we even gave Hitler 2 countries before the war started and the rhineland. There are some wars that shuldn't of bben, e.g. the gulf war, the cold war, vietnam but alot of them where about destroying evil.
  • yes, evil is like cancer. It needs to be removed.
  • No never war is never ever justified. Unless of course you want to kill all the young men and women in your country off or disable them for life. There are other solutions such as mediation or arbitration but countries want to start off hurling stones at each other then it escalates into guns then tanks. And lastly it resorts to bombing of innocent men women and children. I might stand alone in these beliefs but there by the grace of you go I.
  • Yes, war is justified. I may not agree with the war in the middle east, because that is not a war that is being waged for the right reasons. However, look at the Holocaust. Millions upon millions of innocent people died, and the world was forced to look true evil in the face, and in that situation, war was necessary, because there is no reasoning with pure evil.
  • Sometimes, war is truly the only solution. It should be used as a last resort - once everything has been tried and tested and failed. Once you get past discussion, arbitration, mediation, asking nicely, rock paper scissors - whatever - it it isn't solving the problem sometimes you have to fight for your beliefs. I also think that war is justifiable when another country attacks one - not specifically talking about 9/11, but that's an excellent example of something worth fighting over. I don't agree with the current war in Iraq - at ALL - but I believe that flying a plane into buildings and killing innocent people is unforgivable and worth fighting over.
  • It is when both sides can't even discuss something in a civil manner. But we should be able to discuss a problem in a civil manner but since we can't war teaches lessons :)
  • A couple of people seem to have missed the general way this question was posed and are looking at it in terms of current events. The way it's posed bothers me a bit and I'm going to answer it with the assumption that the last letter of the third word is an 'r'. I'll start with the American War of Independence - I believe it was justified because the British government was doing what it has done in so many other parts of the world - taking all and giving little or nothing in return. The American Civil War may or may not have been justified, but it led to the inhuman practice of keeping slaves being done away with long before it otherwise might. The two World Wars of the 20th century were both justified, as were the Falklands War and the first Gulf War, both of which had as their aim the wish to remove foreign invaders. Many other wars seem to me to have no justification whatsoever - compare the indecent haste to get into Iraq with the total ignoring of Zimbabwe - of course Zimbabwe isn't oil rich.
  • Sometimes people just need some killin'. (translated: "sometimes people have to be killed to stop oppression). War is an awful thing, been there, done that.... Even if you disagree with the current one, please support the men and women that are there on our behalf. They didn't set the policy, but they will proudly represent us and pay the price. The unfortunate truth is that without evil, we would not know good. Without war, we would not know peace.
  • Only if it is for the greater good!
  • What war are you talking about? It depends upon the justification. War certainly can be justified, look at Nazi Germany for example.
  • i want to be pc and say no........but hitler?
  • In Irak and Afganistan, YEP!
  • yes it is.
  • Not if by that you mean a just war, there is no such thing. In the example of Hitler that's often used in this sort of debate - he could have been stopped long before by non violent means, preventing him from rearming for one. The war only happened because action that should have been taken wasn't.
  • Yes, absolutely. When the harm caused by a failure to go to war exceeds the harm caused by going to war, war is ethically justified. In fact, the US went to war too late in WWII.
  • i can kill cuz in god i trust - pearl jam
  • Yes. To stop genocide and to protect your nation's people from suffering and oppression, war is justifiable.

  • Even a poltically correct person would change their tune if it is in protection of their loved ones

  • Yes. But it's not the final option everyone makes it out to be, .

TRUE STORY: when the Bush family was invading Iraq for no reason whatsoever, the first time, Lou Dobbs of CNN stopped everything and told us "every generation has to have its war, and generation x was at risk for being the first generation not to have a war of its own, so this doesnt come too soon, and even though you may think war is terrible it's natural and needed and actually a good thing. (HE DID. HE DID SAY SOMETHING AKIN TO EXACTLY THAT) And then the boomers were told nothing was about us anymore. And then FOX started pumping out lies all day and everyone thought it was "news", and now we have a stupid leader for a stupid people. Yay.
  • I think so, but only as a last resort.
  • Matthew 5:44 states "However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you,".
