  • buy a new solenoid. also check all grounds. clean and tighten battery cables.
  • my mother has a taurus 97'model doing the same thing,sometimes it will not start at all,untill it sits for hours i think hers is the "column switch" there is a rod going from the ignition switch-key switch,to the electrical switch at the base of the column (covered by plastic ofcourse) from which the wires run to the sylinoid, im not much of a ford guy i like chevy but thats how most older vehicles work, mabe that will help some,im going to try it on mom's car and see how it goes. good luck.....
