  • Yes, they're mean to me.
  • Maybe the negativity is coming from questions like yours. Enough already.
  • Maybe being told for years how great you are, how you know better than anyone how the world should be run, could just possibly give one a negative attitude towards Americans.
  • this question did not deserve a down rating so the NRA team + rated you. I am an American and proudly served in the US military for 23 years. I don't have a negative view of America but I have heard many reasons why so many non-Americans do. The biggest reason is their media over seas are basically run by their governments and they only hear what their government wants them to hear. Many places are born with the concept that Americans are evil and must die. They know no other way. It is like telling your child there is a monster under your bed they will never have a pleasant view of monsters under the bed if they were told how evil it is. Great question thanks for asking it.
  • No. They have all the good stuff. *cough* Fall Out Boy *cough* Sorry, I just had to say that. But honestly, I don't, I want to move to America. I think people dislike Americans because of past (and present) political "mistakes" that they make. If they dislike the government, they just assume that the rest of the country is useless as well.
  • Why the downrating!? I don't have a negatve view of Americans overall. Just induviduals that happen to be American. It's just like Hitler was the leader of Germany. I don't respect Hitler, but that doesn't mean I hate the Germans. One person does not account for the entire nation. [+Points.]
  • People are people no matter where they come from, I do not understand how the Down Rates come into the question.
  • Humans are humans, no matter where they're from or what their culture is like. In the end, diversity just all ends up in the same place. I don't have a negative view of America or Americans, I have a negative view of all mankind in general. People bitch because the States have all this power and money, but it could have been some other country, and people would just bitch at that supposed country instead.
  • We are allies and friends, Plus from UK Worzel :o)
  • I am an American. I have been my whole life. If I have to hear the phrase "America is the greatest country in the world" or "EVERYONE wishes they lived in this country" ONE MORE TIME... Grr. It seems to be that the United States is in this giant King of the Hill contest with the rest of the world... only the USA isn't aware that NO ONE ELSE IS PLAYING.
  • i only have a negative view of there government and mass media. But they are crappy were ever you go really.
  • Well I am from London, England and LOVE America and the people, especially Dunkin Donuts....... :-) Wish I was there right now xxxxxx
  • I have the same view of Americans as I have of any other group of people. Some of them are good and some are bad. The thing that occasionally gives a bad impression is the way that some Americans are particularly gung ho and openly denigrate other countries and the achievements of other countries.
  • No, I do not have a negative view of Americans in general ... just a few specific individuals ... In Canada, we have a comedian who likes to find "dumb" Americans so he can put them on his show in a segment he calls "Talking to Americans" ... he gets some pretty amusing stuff ... we Canadians know that most Americans are not that dumb, but this comedian likes to make it look like these dummies are the smart ones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhTZ_tgMUdo .
  • Nope... I'm an American. Do you have a negative view of me simply because of my nationality? The problem is many people see the governments, and assume the people are like that, too. While SOME are, the majority aren't... They're just people. Of course, "just people" aren't newsworthy, so we don't SEE news stories or TV shows about the majority of the people of ANY country. So, people always get a skewed vision of the whole country. For example, are ALL French people arrogant? Do ALL the British have bad teeth? Are ALL Iranians and Iraqis terrorists? Are ALL Russian and/or German women masculine? ALL Mexicans and African Americans gang members? Jews rich and snobby? (I KNOW you can come up with more...) Well, those are the stereotypes. AND, many countries media skew their stories to their audience's beliefs. It doesn't help that many governments outside the US spend so much time, energy and money downplaying everything the US has done. In fact, many even TEACH their people that we are bad people - We STOLE their land (that was hundreds of years ago. Give it up! THOSE people are no longer around)... We enslaved their people (didn't ANYONE notice the war that almost tore our country apart - those against slavery of ANY kind vs those how believed in it?)... We give money and weapons to rebels (THAT part may be true... It depends on what the government is doing to their people, usually)... That we're only in Iraq for the oil (If THAT were the case, why would we be trying to give it BACK to them to rule?)... and so on, and so on, and ... If we're so bad, why do we have so many immigrants - people wanting to come to live here permanently and become citizens from all over the world? And why are people willing to risk their lives to GET here? Yes. There are some Americans that want to leave here, but we get more in (legally and illegally) than want to leave permanently. I DO find it somewaht ironic that country's governments spend so much time telling their people how bad the US is, but when some disaster happens there, one of their first calls is to the US for help. (And there's nothing HERE (all my opinion) or in the question that deserves DRing! Ignore what was said if you don't like it... It's just one person's opinion.)
  • The problem is our govnt, they are nosey, arrogent, and also quite stupid. I think that most nations hate our govnt, but seeing as we elect these idiots, they also group the citizens in also. It also doesnt help when we have a moron ape for a commander in chief, I wouldnt in my right mine take a order from that.
  • I am from New Zealand, I don't watch television, listen to radio or read news papers so my opinions are not influenced by anything other than personal experiences. I think where ever you go the world over you will find good people and bad people. Unfortunately, just like with Iraq, a couple of bad people can influence others judgments of an entire culture. I have met some arrogant, pompous and down right rude Americans, but then I have met some arrogant, pompous and down right rude New Zealanders. What I personally find most disturbing is the militaristic outlook of so many Americans I come across. An attitude of being 'the police' of the world. Also so many seem to be obsessed with money. Women wanting to know how much a man makes before getting involved with him. I tend to put this down to the situation they could find themselves in if left with children later on and no government help. (I maybe wrong there) But, for all those who will probably down rate me, my sweetheart, the love of my life is American.
  • Mexican here. In Mexico. What is a bit annoying is that they think their country is the BEST in all things. It's not. On a lot of stuff it is, but not in all. Their attitudes TEND to be: they are better, more educated, morally higher, etc. This looking down attitude is annoying. But oh well, they come with dollars, and spend so much, you can come here anytime...
  • I AM American and I have a negative view of Americans (overall). I feel like our society and culture encourages Americans to be spoiled, greedy, ignorant, obedient, and live in a fantasy world where everyone thinks they're entitled to be rich and famous without doing any work.
  • I really cannot understand why there are so many questions on this site from Americans, that are basically asking why the rest of the world hates them. Most people in the rest of the world just think that Americans are people, much like them, who happen to live in a particular country.
  • I am an American. I haven't noticed anyone speaking ill of America. I have noticed a lot of people complaining about others speaking ill of America. I suspect this is another example of "if we say it often enough, it must be true". I've also noticed that most of the people complaining about others speaking ill of the US are the kind of people of whom I'd be tempted to speak ill.
  • YES their are those who have negative views but I am not one of them.
