  • As of the census of 2000, there were 1,187 people, 466 households, and 327 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,018.5/km sq (2,646.1/mi sq). There were 482 housing units at an average density of 413.6/km sq (1,074.5/mi sq). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.24% White, 0.17% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.08% from Race (United States Census)other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.59% of the population. There were 466 households out of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were Marriagemarried couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.93. In the borough the population was spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.7 males.
