  • Actually, when Leo Gerstenzang invented them in the early 1920s, they were called "Baby Gays". In 1926, they were renamed "Q-Tips Baby Gays". Eventually, it was shortened to just "Q-Tips". Apparently, the "Q" stands for "quality".
