It used to be that way,but as the years go by my parents have become very much more liberal in their thinking.They are now very open minded to progressive ideals,and let conservative ideas fall behind for they see they no longer serve them. I think when they were young,in order to be accepted they had to be conservative.When the hippie days began and flourished many in all age brackets changed to believe in liberal views.

My parents are both deceased, but my political beliefs differed alot more from my dad than my mother.

Marginally. My father was a chemical engineer and everything was cut and dried with him. My step-mother was a fundamentalist and I rebelled against that BIG time. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist with myself and the things I say and do, but I give others a great deal of leeway.
