• Assuming the dog is edgy and insecure, he may be reacting to any sound he hears outside, even a passing semi truck on a road a mile or more away. Even if we, as humans, can hear it if we really tried, we don't, because we hear it so often. It could be a motorcycle, also - your dog may fear Harley-Davidsons - which at a sufficient distance can only be heard at very low frequencies. As July 4th was about 8 or 9 months ago, anything that makes a 'crack' sound, no matter how slight, may make him very edgy. Talk to your vet - there are medications similiar to prozac that only have to be taken for a few months, and the dog's heightened sensitivity to whatever he is reacting to should diminish.
  • Maybe you should be asking this question in the ghost catagory. I know this is going to sound crazy, but from what i know about dogs, they have a sixth sense and can sense the presence of ghosts in and around any area. I myself am not a huge believer in ghosts but i have noticed my dog act strangly around my grandmothers urn at times, and my dog is usually very tame. Obviously i may very well be wrong, but it's something to think about.
  • Check him for fleas. I have seen both dogs and cats get up and run when a flea bites them. A vet told me the bites can be really painful.
