My daughter had a toy that sat in her closet for over 10 years. It had a Duracell battery in it; and it still worked after sitting for all that time. When she found it and realized the battery was still in it, I figured it would have leaked and ruined the toy. I was shocked when she pressed on and it worked.

Actually... They are virtually identical. I did some testing a while back and plotted the results using Excel. http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/3384974 I intend to expand on this testing using more batteries sometime in the near future. However, this test utilized Energizer, Duracell, Ray-O-VAc alkaline AA batteries and also the Energizer Titanium AA. You can read about the results in the link above. But as for Duracell or Energizer Alkaline AA batteries? It just doesn't matter which one you buy, unless you just prefer one over the other. Their performance under low and high discharge rates is virtually identical. I'd say you should base your purchase on one of two choices: 1. Whichever is cheaper (on sale). 2. If you're a man, whichever your wife tells you to buy, because no matter how much you may save by purchasing the other brand, it's well worth the extra cost not to have to listen to her complain about you buying the wrong brand. (In my experience, wives don't care about test results and actual demonstrated performance characteristics. They only care that you buy the batteries that THEY like.)

It was actually Energizer that lasted the longest. In my results I saw that energizer outlasted Duracell by more then 7 hrs and outlasted Eveready by 16 hrs. Eveready lasted least because it is a regular non-alkaline battery while the other 2 Duracell and Energizer are alkaline batteries.
