I tried using a GBA link cable on my GBA SP, but it didn't fit. Are these cables different? Do I need to buy a new one for my GBA SP?

It depends. Are you using a link cable made ONLY for GBA, or one made for GBA and GBA SP to use? If it's supposed to work on both, you're putting it in wrong. And becides, the GBA and GBA SP link slots are exactly the same.

One reason may be that you are putting it in the recharger slot. The larger slot is for the recharger, and the smaller slot is for the link cable. There may be the much more common issue of the link cable being the one that is not compatible with the GBSP. Try looking closely at the fine print on the box and if it says "only GBA compatible", that's your problem. There are two link cables that are compatible for GBSP: Wireless Adapter (for Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green) GBA&GBSP compatible There's your answer! You're welcome.

they are the same, you probably are putting it in the rechaging slot or you need to turn it around
