There is only one way to get rich if you haven't won the lottery or inherited money. You have to spend less than you make and buy only what you can afford to pay cash for. Save a portion of your check every time you get paid and make long and short term investments in a wide range of things. Anyone who works, no matter how poor they are, can become wealthy if they do that. It's not easy but it's possible.

Wealth can be obtained several ways. You have to find a method that works for you. From my experience and the millionaires I've actually spoken to, it boils down to some very simple things. Obviously, If you are doing the work or working for someone else you are on the wrong side of wealth.(unless you are self employed) What I was told was to provide goods or services in an area where those goods and services do not exist. When you decide what that is, you must be better than anyone else is or can be at providing that good or service. (examples, Macdonald's, UPS, pet grooming, coffee, house cleaning, How to books for Dummies etc.) Obviously it takes some work. If you are going to work, then work smart. Some other general rules: 1) Start saving early. 2) Pay yourself first. (before taxes 401k, investments.) 3) Don't use credit unless you can pay it off every month. 4) Don't spend more than you earn. (if it is a business, reinvest in the business and repeat what is successful. Example, Toys "R" Us.) 5) Wait before you purchase anything and ask yourself if you really need it. 6) Make sure your spouse or partner practices these things as well. 7) If you are in a long term relationship or hope to be in one, try to live off the income and benefits of one person while saving and investing the income of the other. 8) Hire someone to professionally manage your money. 9) Teach your children good habits around investing. 10)Never rely solely upon Social Security, Annuities, 401ks, inheritance or a lottery windfall for your retirement. Have forms of residual income like rental properties that bring in a regular source of income. 11) Share the wealth wisely. it is always good to give something back.
