I have an old rv trailer. The pilot light on the furnace (gravity feed) works but the furnace won't ignite. What could the problem be. The battery is stone dead. Does this style require 12 volt power to operate?

Could be the temperature sensor that tells your furnace to open the valve. Your furnace needs the battery to operate
