  • Did you mean diffuse? Graham's Law states that the rate of diffusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the square root of its molecular weight. Helium (He) has a molecular weight of 4.0 Chlorine (Cl2) has a MW of 35.5 * 2 = 71 So chlorine gas should diffuse sqrt(71/4.0) = 4.2 times slower than helium. For the same volume & other conditions, if it takes helium 4.5 minutes, then it should take chlorine gas (4.5)(4.2) = 19 minutes.
