I never gave any of my pets (birds and dogs) nicknames, because I (and several Vets I knew) felt that it would be too "confusing" for the animal to be called anything other than their ONE name, which they could learn to recognize, and to which they would always respond. Besides, their regular names were "cute enough" on their own, without needing to be "abbreviated" or otherwise shortened. +5

I call my one dog Pooper. Her name is Ursula, but when she was a puppy, she made such little tiny poops (we had and fostered great danes at the time) that we called her Little Pooper, and it got shortened.

i call tigger "bigger tigger" hoping that even after 11 years she'll grow into a full sized cat. . i call lucy, "lucy goosey" . i call piccaso, "picky" . my beautiful, black baby boy, charlie, i call him "barley charlie" except when he asserts dominion and attacks another cat, at which time i call him, "barles charles". ......... i always call my dog, "love of my life". my wife didn't take too kindly to that, saying that the love of my life should be her or our kids. ... of course. but, she's my doggy!!!

I love this question and I loved reading all the answers. I have two cats, Hairy Ears(named by my 7 year old neighbor), and Mouser. And I have Brewster, my chihuahua. I call Hairy Ears, Harry, like the Groom's Mom in the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". I call Mouser, Mouse of course. Not because she likes to bring me mice, but because she looks like one. And Brewster...well I call him Noodle, Muffin, and FoxyBunny, <derivatives of FoxyBunny include Bun, Bun-Bun, Bunba-knee, Bun- bunny (there's a pic of why I call him this in my profile). +++5 :-)

Not exactly a name for a pet, but my late wife and I referred to each other as Trudy Bear and Baxter Bear. It was taken from a now defunst cartoon named Bears in love.

The rabbit is fuzz and Roadie the turtle I call Stan and Stan actually has her own pet...Stan didn't eat a feeder gold fish and she kept it as a pet and that gold fish is huge now. I don't know what Stan named it but I call it the Big "O"!
