The Beatles were influenced by people like Buddy Holly & Eddie Cochran, who wrote or co-wrote their own material. Just about every rock guitarist dressed in black with a low slung guitar was influenced by Keith Richards, who was influenced by the great bluesmen of the 40s & 50s. Many of the British guitarists of the 60s & 70s cite Hank Marvin of The Shadows as a influence or the reason they started playing.
